Liberty University is the largest private non-profit university in America.
Founded in 1971, Liberty University is the largest Evangelical Christian university in the world, the United State’s largest private non-profit university, the country’s seventh largest, four-year university, and the largest university in Virginia. It’s annual enrollment includes approximately 12,600 residential students. Also, it boasts over 90,000 online students (May 2013).
Liberty University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) as of 1980. This was reaffirmed in 2006. It was also accredited by the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (TRACS) from which it resigned in 2008. The Liberty University law school opened in August 2004 and gained provisional accreditation from the American Bar Association two years later.
Liberty University also has a very strong online Internet program – which was previously called their Distance Learning Program (DLP). It has been rebranded as LU Online. This program provides complete degrees ranging from associates through doctorates. Online and residential academic periods run concurrent 16-week semesters of 8-week subterms.
Liberty University is located at 1971 University Blvd, Lynchburg, Virginia 24502. Its acceptance rate in 2014 was only 22.80% and its tuition was $20,892 per year. It was founded by Evangelist Jerry Falwell.
