In 2003, Whitman merged with Career Education Corporation, which owns around 90 for-profit schools in the United States. Based upon a controversy regarding recruitment practices, CEC announced in 2012 that they were planning to close 23 of its campuses, which include a couple of CTU ones.
Colorado Technical University is regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA). It has been accredited since 1980. Many of their programs are accredited by other organizations and associations. For instance, their College of Business and Management is accredited by the Project Management Institute. The Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) has accredited CTU’s undergraduate Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering degree programs since 1993 and 1999, respectively. Those programs are located in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
